Puppies and radiation: the forgotten of Chernobyl

|

30 years later and Chernobyl is not completely healed. It still has locked areas, and sick residents, but let’s talk about something nicer; puppies and kittens. No one has thought about them, but, when the catastrophe occurred, everyone left and some of them abandoned their pets. Those where rough years for them, but now things have changed, and the new generation of forgotten pets are extremely adorable.

It is normal to walk in Chernobyl surrounded by a herd of puppies, and they’re spoiled as a common dog. But, bad news, you can’t touch them, you can get very sick, because they still have radiation on their fur. The famous filmmaker Drew Scanlon shows it in his documental“Puppies of Chernobyl” where you can see thousands of dogs and kittens waking around the place and following everyone.

In the documental you can see how cute they are, and it’s kind of sad to imagine their lifes without love and fun. But, good news! They are getting sterilized, there won’t be any sadder puppies, and the new Chernobyl population is getting new dogs and cats to renovate the population. I think that’s a good idea, instead of killing them or kick them out, they will have a happy life, and then there will be a new herd of healthy puppies that you can touch, kiss and hug.

Until now you can only picture them; spoiled, fluffy and clumsy puppies trying to play with you, following, jumping and running around you, trying to get your attention.

It is cute but sad, I don’t know you, but I would die for coddling them… Literally.
